Pondicherry, India

Posted 08.12.2009

sunny 30 °C

I arrived in Chennai (or Madras as the city was called before) around 9pm. The original plan was to sleep at the airport and go to Pondicherry by bus the following morning, but it turned out that you can't sleep at the airport without a flight ticket out. So I decided to continue straight to Pondicherry. The good thing when you travel a lot is that you stop worrying about things like "where am I going to sleep tonight?". In the end you always find something, even when you arrive at 2am.
I was quite nervous about meeting Bomi again after all this time, and she told me she was freaked out as well. But fortunately all went well and we had a wonderful time together. We lived in a Guesthouse that belongs to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and went there sometime for food.
After some time I thought I should take some pictures of this city and realized that my camera was missing. I don't know if I forgot it in Korea or somewhere in India, but fact is I lost my second camera. This is starting to get expensive. Anyway here are some pictures we took with Bomi's camera on the day we went to Auroville with our rented bicycles:

The last two pictures are from the Matrimandir, the central structure of Auroville. Auroville is an experimental village where people from all over the world try (and fail) to live in harmony. Well, at least they're trying. They also have an ecological research department there and I went to talk with the people there. They told me I am welcome to join them if I'm interested. Tempting offer, especially since they consider non-work related activities as something important and actually expect you to enjoy yourself.
Ten days in I got news from Switzerland that my mother's condition was getting worse. So I decided to leave India for the time being and go back to my family. Once again I had to leave Bomi, this time after only two weeks. But I definitely intend to come back as soon as possible!

Hallo Fab!
