Ok, not much to write about this city. I arrived about 12 hours late because the train got stuck somewhere between Varanasi and Kolkata and stayed there under the burning sun for most of the day.
I had heard that Kolkata is one of the cheapest cities in India (cheap rents), so I decided this is the place to finally replace some of my gear after 18 months on the road. Shopping spree!!! :-D I bought two shirts, a pair of pants, and some new sandals. To make space for these new clothes in my bag I gave away may two trusty Billabong shirts that I had bought in Singapore in 2002, some pair of pants I had bought for trekking, and my pair of sandals that were falling apart.

I had planned one day for tourism, but since I had misread my plane ticket (my plane for Bangkok leaves at 2am, not at 2pm!) I have to get to the airport much sooner that expected. In fact I hace to go now. So without further blabla, here are the two only shots I have from Kolkata:

This bridge is 60 years old and is one of the most intensly used in the world. I forgot the name, though.

The Victoria Memorial in the Maidans.
